Peepal tree is one of the largest trees and it is responsible for maximum air purification. With this wonderful tree I listen everyday Bird songs and callings . That’s why it’s also called as as Vanaspati (Lord of Forest).
The tree also symbolizes the continuity of life because the tree itself lives & grows for hundreds of years.
Peepal can also do a modified form of photosynthesis called as Crassulacean Acid Metabolism. Though it may not release large amount of oxygen by this process but it is capable of doing as special kind photosynthesis during night
In Buddhism it has great significance It is also known as the Bo-Tree (from the Sanskrit Bodhi: “wisdom”, “enlightened”,
Hindus do pradakshina (circumambulation, or meditative pacing) around the sacred fig tree as a mark of worship. Usually seven pradakshinas are done around the tree in the morning time chanting mantras or “positive affirmations .

The peepal tree is the tree of Life has also been used in Ayurveda as well as Unani. Each and every part of the tree is used in treating one or the other ailments!
Being such a wonderful & useful tree, it is obvious that our mythology do not allow to hurt the tree in anyway. To cut down a Peepal is considered a sin equivalent to killing a Brahmin ( not as cast but who is with Brahman ) , one of the five deadly sins (Pancha-pataka). According to the Skanda Purana, a person goes to hell for doing so!
Goddess Lakshmi dwells in the tree on Saturdays. Women who are not blessed with a child tie a red thread around the trunk or on its branches asking the deities to bless her and fulfill her desire.

Truly Peepal is one of the Nature’s valuable gifts. The highly beneficial tree is easily propagated through the seeds. It benefits not only humans but birds & insects too in multiple ways.
